Cumberland Hotel pop-up art gallery

When describing Guoman’s The Cumberland Hotel the words contemporary, iconic and edgy spring to mind.  But that’s a claim that many landmark London properties would make....

Creating a point of difference to reinforce this ‘edge’ - and making it something that would appeal unequivocally to its high net worth clientele – is the real challenge. So Siren approached London auctioneers, Dreweatts Bloomsbury, to set up a pop up art gallery in the foyer of The Cumberland.  Featuring the best in urban contemporary art, with pieces from Banksy, Shepherd Fairey and Charming Baker, the exhibition lasted for 10 days and culminated in a high-octane auction in the hotel’s Ocean Suite.

Running alongside was an exhibition and auction of luxury vintage – with pieces from the Duchess of Windsor’s private collection and handbags from Chanel and Hermes.

And, if that wasn’t enough, we organised for a fully stencilled Banksy Truck – the only one in the world – to drop by for the morning rush hour.

The results were overwhelming, with coverage as far flung as Hawaii, New York and India and syndicated TV courtesy of the Press Association and Reuters. Bloggers, websites and social media sites buzzed with Tweets and Tags and every single piece was branded with The Cumberland hotel.

What people say

"Siren has acted for ABTA both on campaign assignments following the Icelandic Ash Cloud and providing interim support for our day to day operations during a period of intense activity. On the creative front, Siren came up with ideas to celebrate our 60th Anniversary in 2010 and engage with a new audience. The Schools Art Challenge was a great success, which was cost effective and very well managed. We would recommend them as a travel PR and communications agency."

"Siren operates as a seamless extension of our Marketing and Communications team. They have their finger on the pulse of our issues, and can be trusted to find creative ways of expressing our messages, while keeping them rooted in the operational reality of our business. Their professional approach would be hard to beat."

"Siren has managed the Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd PR business for over 6 years. During that time the RCL Cruises Ltd business generated from the UK & Ireland has more than quadrupled in size. Siren have played a significant role in our business growth. The team members are creative, responsive and always prepared to go the extra mile."

"We moved our PR account to Siren because of the excellent strategic thinking that they presented alongside the basic requirements of good contacts, good staff and processes, and good knowledge of the travel industry. We’ve been pleased to see all these elements being delivered effectively by a team that we enjoy working with."

Geoff Lawrence, Marketing Director, Voyages of Discovery & Swan Hellenic
